The brand new virtual world of Milkfrost - formally (milkfrost.multiply.com)

The reason why this blog is created is because Multiply.com is shutting down & all posts will be removed. Some posts here are back-dated from Aug 2004 - Aug 2012! I'm just doing a screen-shot & re-posting slowly cos it ain't easy to import every single photo. Therefore, only thumbnails are available for viewing, which also explains the white background & the little note at the end.

Dalton's Baby Shower

Dalton is exactly one month old today & so it'e time to meet the folks!
We went out for quick lunch before heading home to prepare to go over to Sengkang cos kor is helping to host the event.Cakes for friends & relatives are ordered from e-CreativeWhile sis went to feed the baby, I stayed at the function room to watch the cakes & to wait for the caterer to arriveTheresa helped to collect the Ang Ku Kueh & Glutinous Rice which sis ordered from Lek Lim Nonya Cake Confectionery. Thanks twinnie!Sis ordered vegetarian cos One of the relative is a vegetarianAlso had to order Halal food cos one or two of the friend is a MuslimWhereas the main caterer is from Neo Garden cateringOh my goodness! Food she ordered is like feeding the entire kampung can?! So much food we had to ask everyone to tabao & a lot of food gone to waste cos many did not RSVP & she is afraid that food is not enough for those who turned up without RSVPSeriously, I feel she doesn't have to cater for those who did not RSVP lor. If they did not RSVP means they're not coming. If they come unexpectedly, that is their own business if there is no food for them. Anyways... ... Mum is having fun playing with Alexia cos is very cute & she's the only baby girl aroundThis EL arh, only want to take selfie with babyOops.. all the peeping toms! Thanks girls for popping by!Mum's  #6 grandsonThen we went up to kor's house after all the guests left 清一色 All boys

Thanks Angeline for the diaper cake
On behalf of sis & family,

Lek Lim Nonya Confectionery

An impromptu trip to Lek Lim Nonya Cake Confectionery with Theresa on Saturday noon to buy some kuehs.

Handmade Soon Kueh - This is so nice even left in fridge overnight, the taste is still good

Kueh Lapis Nonya

Kueh Kao Swee

Fried Carrot Cake

Steam Yam Cake. I wanted fried ones, but it was sold out already. Love the generous serving of yam bites!

The owner is nice to give us some samples of their homemade Pineapple Tarts & Almond Cookies

We then head to Blk 85 market to have a drink/ desert. I had Rice balls with Ginger Soup while Theresa had fresh Coconut before heading home.

I was a little full yesterday evening, so I kept some kuehs in the fridge. Woke up this morning feeling super hungry, I reheat the Soon Kueh & Yam Cake for breakfast & it still taste like it's freshly made! Sis also says it's pretty good with generous servings of ingredients

And yes, while typing this entry, I was snacking the Kueh Lapis!

and what's the best way to enjoy Kueh Lapis? Peel it layer by layer and eat it slowly!

Lek Lim Nonya Cake Confectionery

Wendy was invited by The 3rd Generation Owner, Gavin for a hands-on Ang Ku Kueh Making session & she brought us along!

Lek Lim Nonya Cake Confectionery - a traditional shop located at block 84 Bedok North Street 4. It all started from its home business in 1968 before moving to its current location in 1987 when the business picked up.Other than selling their kuehs to the general public, Lek Lim Nonya Cake Confectionery also supplies them to hotels and catering companies.

To maintain the quality of their Soon Kueh, Peng Kueh & Koo Cai (Chives) Kueh, they are still hand-making it daily right from scratch!

As Chinese New Year is approaching, they also have some goodies for sale. Most of the goodies are made by relatives, also from local suppliers. Kueh Bangkit & Kueh Koya are few of those hand-made goodies available. These are handmade by a 80ish Old lady, and the mould itself is abt 90yrs old!

3rd Generation Owner, Gavin walking-tru the History of Lek Lim Nonya Cake Confectionery while his mum get ready some ingredients for us to hands-on making Ang Ku Kueh

Gavin explaining the history of Ang Ku Kueh to us, and demonstrating how they handmade the kueh

Us, getting ready to 开公 after Gavin's demo!

Ang Ku Kueh in the making! Saw my final result? Not bad leh.. heeheehee

The Girls at work!

So here's our final result & it's ready to be steamed!

Into the oven they goes!

Next, we were introduced Pulut Inti

Till date, Lek Lim are still insisted on using the banana leaves to wrap them for quality & taste control

Aunty showing us how to wrap them

Our works!

haha.. paparazzi at work

This huge machine you see here is for grating/cooking coconut & peanut paste.

The ladies here were hand-making Soon Kuehs when we reached, now they're hand-making Peng Kuehs. Just in case you're wondering why the Peng Kueh is colorless, it's because long time ago, people are poor to even afford the red coloring, so it remains colorless. Lek Lim is preserving the traditional colorless Peng Kueh, but they do have some doted with red color in the middle of the surface if you need them for offerings.

Our final product is ready!

It was quite an enjoyable little learning trip for us to get a chance of making Ang Ku Kueh. It makes me feel the hard-work of the ladies working behind the counter in the hot-stuffy environment over long hours. It's really not easy an easy job

Before we left, Gavin was generous to pack for us lots of handmade kuehs for us to bring home to share with our family!

Me, a sucker for Yam cake, Kueh Lapis & Wah-Go-Kueh, even bought more to bring home!

Hopefully Lek Lim's business will 发发发 so we can enjoy delicious homemade Nonya Kueh!

Lastly, Thanks Gavin for inviting Wendy!
