milkfrost's world

The brand new virtual world of Milkfrost - formally (milkfrost.multiply.com)

The reason why this blog is created is because Multiply.com is shutting down & all posts will be removed. Some posts here are back-dated from Aug 2004 - Aug 2012! I'm just doing a screen-shot & re-posting slowly cos it ain't easy to import every single photo. Therefore, only thumbnails are available for viewing, which also explains the white background & the little note at the end.

Barramundi Harvesting Trip

Since our company is having Barramundi promotion, the management arranged for a Barramundi harvesting trip for those who are keen to learn
Kühlbarra Farm is located along the Southern Island & therefore, we have to board a ferry at West Coast PierAlong the journey on board, we were told that all Barramundi are born male & they will go thru a sex change when they are around 3 years of age. Female Barramundi will then picked, breed & they can produce about 5000 eggs per breed!
The eggs will then be taken care of by their own scientist & moved to the cage at open sea to grow to the desired size before being harvested.

The company harvest 3 times a week and about 7 tonnes a month. Each Barramundi weighing around 5-6 kg, so that makes about 1400 fishes a month!

They have permanent staff staying on sea, making sure the fishes are well taken care of.

No, we did not harvest but we were given a chance to hold the fish for picture!

This I'm holding, is about 5 kg
After the short trip, we went for lunch at The Wharf, Singapre Yacht ClubIt was quite an educational trip and hopefully our management can organize more of such trips to other suppliers/ plants that has dealings with us.
